Mechanical Insulator
Apply insulating materials to pipes or ductwork, or other mechanical systems in order to help control and maintain temperature per blueprints or specifications.
Tasks
- Prepare and track required documentation related job tasks.
- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify defects or other problems.
- Moving insulation materials and covering materials to work area.
- Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use.
- Remove worn, damaged or outdated materials from work areas.
- Measure materials or objects for installation or assembly.
- Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
- Fit and secure insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
- Measure and cut sheet metal, vinyl or other materials for covering insulation.
- Install sheet metal, vinyl or other materials around insulation materials with glues, bands, screws, or other adhesives to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
- Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
- Clean work areas and remove waste debris.
- Install insulation on or in equipment or structures.
- Select other proper construction materials required for installation.
